At the centre is a pond with a small island, pavilions and even a small palace on the banks. It is classed as a temple garden and is one of the highest-ranking gardens outside of China.

The Niederdorf Quarter

The Niederdorf Quarter is part of Zurich’s old historic centre. Locals affectionately refer to it as ‘Dörfli’, or little village, and often mean the entire district of Niederdorf and Oberdorf extending to Bellevue. Like the Limmatquai road that runs parallel to it, the Niederdorf is closed to vehicles. During the day, the many shops tucked away in the alleyways of this pedestrian zone are a temptation inviting you to come shopping. Come the evening, Niederdorf is transformed into an entertainment district whose bars and pubs are filled with a colourful mix of visitors of all kinds. At the end of August there is the popular ‘Dörflifäscht’, or village festival, featuring DJs, market stalls, tasty treats to eat, shows and attractions.
Bahnhofstrasse

The world-renowned shopping boulevard was created after the construction of Zurich’s main railway station. At the point where city moats once were 150 years ago, nowadays it connects Lake Zurich with the main railway station, extending for a distance of 1.4 km. You will find numerous boutiques, department stores and watchmakers here and also the Paradeplatz – the Swiss banking centre. Bahnhofstrasse is popular with locals and visitors alike and is well worth a visit. You can take a relaxing stroll along the lake front in the summer or, come winter-time, enjoy the mulled wine or hot chocolate on offer at practically every street corner. From the Bahnhofstrasse, the Rennweg and the Augustinergasse will lead you to the picturesque historic centre of the city.
